AoE deadline converter and countdown

An AoE (Anywhere on Earth) deadline ends at the last moment the stated date exists anywhere: 23:59 in UTC−12, which is 11:59 UTC the next day. Enter the date and time from the call for papers and see it in your own time zone, with a live countdown.

How the conversion works

AoE is UTC−12, twelve hours behind UTC. To turn an AoE time into UTC, add 12 hours. To turn it into your own time, add 12 hours and then apply your offset from UTC. A deadline given as a date alone is normally the end of that date, 23:59, so the real deadline is around midday UTC on the next day.

Worked example: 23:59 AoE on 15 May 2026

AoE to your time zone

Each page has the common deadline times (midnight, noon, 23:59) worked out for one time zone:

Mistakes that cost submissions

  • Reading the date as your own midnight. Where AoE is behind you, the deadline is later than you think, and where you are behind it, a late-evening plan can already be too late.
  • Subtracting 12 instead of adding it. AoE is behind UTC, so UTC is AoE plus 12 hours.
  • Assuming a venue uses AoE. Some calls give a city’s time or plain UTC. The call’s own words decide, and this converter only handles the AoE case.

Frequently asked questions

What does AoE mean in a deadline?

AoE means Anywhere on Earth. The deadline passes only when the stated date has ended in every time zone, and a date ends last in UTC−12 (the time zone of Baker Island and Howland Island). If it is still the deadline date somewhere on Earth, you are on time.

What time is 23:59 AoE in UTC?

11:59 UTC the next day. AoE is UTC−12, so you add 12 hours to reach UTC: 23:59 on May 15 AoE is 11:59 on May 16 in UTC.

Does AoE change with daylight saving time?

No. AoE is a fixed offset of UTC−12 all year. Your own time zone may change its offset, so check the conversion again if a deadline falls near the week your clocks change. This converter uses your browser's current time zone rules.

Is 00:00 AoE the start or the end of the day?

It is the start of that date: 00:00 on May 15 AoE is noon UTC on May 15, almost a full day earlier than 23:59 on May 15 AoE. Many calls mean the end of the day when they write a date, so read the call carefully and, if it is unclear, submit before the earlier reading.

Should I wait until the last minute to submit?

No. Submission systems slow down or fail close to a deadline, and an AoE deadline is hours later than most people's own midnight, which makes it easy to misjudge. Submit a few hours before the converted time.
